Pp. [i–iv] v–xxvi, [1–2] 3–420 [421–422]. Type: Dante. Printed and bound by L.E.G.O. in full blue cloth printed in black and blocked in gold; red endleaves. Red slip case blocked with gold Chinese characters reading Yangtze river. Contains over 100 photographs in the text, the majority of which were taken by Bird and now held by the Royal Geographical Society. A folded map of her route, from the first edition of 1899, is loosely inserted in a corner pocket pasted onto the back endleaf.
