The Malay Archipelago, the land of the orang-utan and the bird of paradise, a narrative of travel, with studies of man and nature, Alfred Russel Wallace. 239 × 162 × 31–34 mm. 2 vols (see below). Type: Dante. Printed by Memminger MedienCentrum. Bound by Josef Spinner in full pale blue cloth printed in green and blocked in pale brown and dark blue with two different designs; green endleaves. Blue two-volume slip case blocked in green and pale brown. The text follows that of the first edition published by Macmillan and Co. in 1869, with minor emendations and the ommission of the appendix. Wallace’s 1858 article ‘On the tendency of varieties to depart indefinitely from the original type’ is included at the end. In addition to the plates, over 50 black and white engraved illustrations are in the text. The two volumes are as follows:
