A journal of the plague year, Daniel Defoe, introduced by Richard Horton, illustrated by Chris Wormell. 240 × 162 × 27 mm. Pp. [i–v] vi–xi [xii–xiv], [1–3] 4–244 [245–250]. Type: Caslon. Printed in red and black by Neografia. Bound by them in three-quarter black cloth with paper front board designed by Wormell; gold endleaves. Black slip case with the novel’s original subtitle blocked in gold. In addition to an illustrated
title-page, Wormell has supplied woodcut motifs in the text, from a rat to a skull and crossbones. As the opening to Horton’s introduction states, ‘Until 2020, readers of Defoe’s account of the Great Plague of London in 1665 may well have approached his imaginative retelling as an historical curiosity.’
