Marcel Proust, in search of lost time. 239 × 159 × 35–47 mm. 6 vols (see below). Type: Fournier. Printed and bound by the Bath Press. Full dark or pale blue cloth, decorated and titled in dark or pale blue and gold to a design by Malcolm Harvey Young; dark blue endleaves. Two pale blue three-volume slip cases, printed
with a portrait of Proust and titled (as above) in gold. The first Folio edition was published as Remembrance of things past in 1981 (item 481.5). The same translation has been used here, with revisions by D.J. Enright.
Each volume is illustrated with a portrait frontispiece of Proust, and reproductions of photographs taken by Eugène Atget between around 1896 and 1926. This title was the ‘Castaway’s Choice’ of several celebrated persons (see item 270). The six volumes are as follows:
