A Little Princess - Frances Hodgson Burnett - Folio Society - 2007
$150.00
First published in its familiar form in 1905, this novel follows Sara Crewe, a clever, story-telling child left at Miss Minchin's London seminary while her father serves in India. When news comes that he is dead and his fortune gone, Miss Minchin turns Sara into an attic servant beside the scullery maid Becky. Sara still invents princess games for herself and the younger girls, and she is watched by the Indian servant of the rich neighbor next door. The book is a boarding-school story of sudden poverty and imagined dignity.
