Lord of the Flies - William Golding - Folio Society - 2009

Stranded on an island, a group of schoolboys attempt to organise themselves while hoping for rescue. Their early agreements are tested by fear, rivalry and competing ideas about leadership. As the distance from adult authority grows, maintaining cooperation becomes increasingly difficult. William Golding’s novel uses the boys’ changing relationships to examine the foundations of social order, the attraction of power and the ease with which a community can turn against its own principles.
