Details
Victor Hugo, the hunchback of Notre-Dame, translated by Walter J. Cobb with an introduction & illustrations by Quentin Blake. 252 × 163 × 42 mm. Pp. [i–viii] ix–xii, [1–2] 3–442: [13] leaves of two-colour ‘plates’. Type: Bulmer with Goudy Text and Lombardic Cap itals for display. Printed by the Amadeus Press. Bound by Hunter and Foulis in full blue cloth with a design in black and gold by Blake; blue endleaves. Dark blue slip case. The text of the present edition is a revision of Walter Cobb’s 1965 translation of Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris (first published in 1831). Blake’s delightful illustrations are – unusually – printed with the text in shades of blue and black. In addition, there are 23 smaller monochrome sketches, used as tail-pieces and on the divisional-title of each ‘book’.
