Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood - Folio Society - 2019

In a near-future North America split between corporate Compounds and chaotic pleeblands, Snowman lives among the Crakers, a gentle engineered people, and remembers his earlier life as Jimmy. He recalls his brilliant friend Crake, who designed a new humanity and a plague, and the woman they both knew as Oryx, who taught the Crakers and became Crake's partner. Flashbacks cover childhood friendship, genetic commerce, and the collapse of the old world. The present-tense strand follows Snowman's scavenging and his duty to the new people. The novel is a speculative narrative of bioengineering and friendship.
