[i–iv] v–xv [xvi], [1–2] 3–207 [208]: [7] leaves of colour plates (facing pp. [iii], 33, 48, 97, 112, 144 and 177). Type: Poliphilus. Printed by Memminger MedienCentrum. Bound by Real Lachenmaier in full grey buckram printed in dark brown with a design by Gilbert; purple endleaves . Contains 12 short stories originally published in the nineteenth century. The title is taken from the opening story, written by John Polidori.
